NORMAN – Oklahoma junior Lily Miyazaki will represent the Sooners at the NCAA Women's Individual Championships, the organization announced Wednesday.
Miyazaki is the first Sooner to earn a bid to the individual singles draw since Anda Perianu in 2004.
The field of 64 singles draw will take place May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., following the team tournament that runs from May 19-23.
Miyazaki led the Sooners with a 13-5 dual-match record in singles from the No. 1 line. The Tokyo, Japan, native won all her matches in straight sets and finished the season ranked No. 32 in the final ITA release.
During fall tournament play, Miyazaki compiled a 16-2 singles record and went undefeated at both the Wolfpack Invitational and OU Invite. Miyazaki also recorded a 6-0 finish at the Division I Women's Central Regional Championship to earn a bid to the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, where she advanced to the second round.
The junior was the first player to represent Oklahoma at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships since 2009, and finished the fall season ranked No. 10 in the ITA rankings.
