May 01, 2017 | Men's Tennis
NORMAN – All three Oklahoma men's tennis doubles tandems earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors, selected by Big 12 coaches, the conference announced on Monday.
Overall, Oklahoma is rolling in doubles action, earning the doubles point in three consecutive matches over top-10 teams in the country - Oklahoma State, Texas and TCU.
“We take a lot of pride in doubles and I'm happy to see these guys get rewarded for their hard work and tough play this weekend,” Oklahoma head coach Nick Crowell said.
Oklahoma senior Andrew Harris and junior Spencer Papa were named the tournament's top No. 1 doubles team. The OU duo, ranked as the No. 15 doubles duo in the nation in the Oracle/ITA poll, went 2-0 on the weekend, moving to 7-3 in 2017 dual play as partners.
Harris and Papa defeated George Goldhoff and Christian Sigsgaard of Texas, 6-4, in the Sooners' 4-3 win over the No. 9 Longhorns in the opening round on Thursday. The two took care of No. 33 Jerry Lopez and Reese Stalder of TCU, 6-4, in the semifinals on Friday.

Sooner seniors Florin Bragusi and Alex Ghilea, ranked No. 66 in the country, shared all-tournament honors at No. 2 doubles with TCU's Alex Rybakov and Guillermo Nunez. Both from Romania, Bragusi and Ghilea were victorious over Texas' Colin Markes and Leo Telles, 6-2, on Thursday to clinch the doubles point for Oklahoma before going unfinished on Friday versus TCU's Rybakov and Nunez. The Sooners tandem finished the weekend at 8-5 in doubles dual play.
Freshmen Jochen Bertsch and Adrian Oetzbach completed the sweep of doubles honors for Oklahoma at the No. 3 spot. Bertsch and Oetzbach, both Germany natives, went unfinished against Julian Zlobinsky/Harrison Scott of Texas on Thursday before defeating TCU's Trevor Johnson/Cameron Norrie, 7-5, in the semifinals to clinch the doubles point for OU. The freshmen are 2-1 as partners overall.
“All three teams played at a very high level and they showed we are a force in doubles," Crowell added.
Oklahoma will have a week off before preparing for the NCAA First and Second Rounds, beginning May 12. If the Sooners earn a top-16 finish in Oracle/ITA's upcoming rankings, OU, currently No. 15, will host the opening two rounds at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The NCAA Selection Show will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at 4 p.m. CT and will be available to watch live here. For more information on Oklahoma men's tennis, follow the team on Twitter @OU_MTennis.
