Sooners Set for Virginia Roadtrip

NORMAN – The No. 47 Oklahoma women's tennis team will hit the road and play back-to-back matches at Old Dominion and VCU this week.
The Sooners' first contest will be at Old Dominion on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. CT, before traveling to Richmond to take on VCU at 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
The pair of matches will Oklahoma's first on the road since the Sooners traveled to Arkansas on Feb. 5 in just their second match of the season.
Oklahoma
OU (8-3, 0-1 Big 12) comes into the match following a loss to No. 10 Baylor in its Big 12 Conference opener on March 10. The Sooners fell to the Lady Bears, 4-0, in their first match against a ranked opponent. The loss to Baylor was the final contest of Oklahoma's nine-match homestand, during which the Sooners compiled a 7-2 record.
In singles play, Oklahoma is led by No. 21 Lily Miyazaki. The junior owns a 7-3 record in the one slot in singles play. Freshman Julie Byrne is another force for the Sooners, compiling an 8-1 record on courts four, five and six. Byrne has won her last four consecutive singles matches in straight sets.
The Sooners are just one victory shy of matching their number on wins last season with nine.
Scouting Old Dominion
As of March 7, Old Dominion (9-4) had two players in the ITA rankings. Freshman Holly Hutchinson is No. 84, while Borislava Botusharova clocks in at No. 89. In their last match, the Monarchs held on to defeat Iowa, 4-3, at home.
Tuesday will mark the first meeting between Old Dominion and Oklahoma.
Scouting VCU
The Rams (8-2) enter Wednesday's match following a pair of road matches, where they defeated Florida Atlantic, 4-1, before falling to FIU, 4-0.
The Rams are led by Janina Braun, who owns a 9-1 record on courts one and two. The sophomore is undefeated (5-0) on court two. Fellow sophomore Anna Rasmussen is 8-2 overall in the No. 1 and 2 slots. Rasmussen is also 5-0 from the No. 2 line. In doubles play, Darya Berezhnaya and Noumea Witmus are 4-2 on courts one and two.
The match will be the first-ever between Oklahoma and VCU.
