NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center to kick off its nine-match homestand this weekend. The Sooners are set to host North Texas at 2 p.m. CT Friday, then take on Wisconsin Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.

Oklahoma

The Sooners (1-1) come into the weekend following a loss in their first road match at Arkansas last Sunday. The Razorbacks clinched the doubles point, then forced three third sets in singles play to hand Oklahoma its first loss of the season. Freshman Julie Byrne was the only OU player to come away with a win, closing out her singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.

Byrne has won back-to-back singles matches at the No. 6 line for the Sooners. OU's Lily Miyazaki is ranked No. 16 in singles heading into this weekend's two contests.

Scouting the Mean Green

North Texas (1-3) enters the match after a 4-2 loss to Tulsa on Feb 3. At No. 1 doubles, Mean Green sophomore duo of Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze are undefeated on the season, compiling a 3-0 record.

In singles play, Kononova is 3-1 from the No. 1 line, with her one loss coming against then-No. 29 Vladica Babic of Oklahoma State.

Friday will mark the fourth meeting between OU and North Texas, with the Mean Green owning the all-time series record, 2-1. North Texas won the last matchup with the Sooners, 4-1, last season in Denton, Texas.

Scouting the Badgers

Wisconsin (3-1) travels to Norman on a three-match winning streak. The Badgers have defeated Colorado State, Marquette and Xavier on their home court, with the win over Colorado State a 7-0 sweep.

Senior Maria Averginos leads the Badgers with a 3-1 record at No. 1 this season in singles.  Her only loss came in Wisconsin's season opener against Marshall, when she fell to Derya Turhan, then No. 90 nationally.

In doubles play, Kelsey Grambeau and Christina Zordani are 3-0 from the No. 2 line.

The Sooners have only met Wisconsin once, when the Badgers topped Oklahoma, 4-3, on Feb. 28, 2009 in Columbia, Mo.
