Oklahoma at Arkansas NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team travels to Arkansas Sunday to take on the Razorbacks for its first road match of the season. Match time is set for 12 p.m. CT at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Sooners (1-0) head to Fayetteville fresh off a 6-1 victory over UTEP in their season opener in Norman last Saturday. Oklahoma claimed the doubles point to gain momentum early, then owned five of six singles matches in straight sets for its first win under head coach Audra Cohen.
“We have been working hard this week on and off the court and we are looking forward to a tough match against Arkansas,” said head coach Audra Cohen. “We've been able to work on a few things we learned from our UTEP match and each player has done a good job working on specific things this week in preparation for Arkansas.”
Oklahoma freshmen standouts Serena Nash and Julie Byrne earned singles victories in their spring debuts, with Byrne's win clinching the match for the Sooners. Nash has won nine singles matches this season, second only to junior and No. 10 Lily Miyazaki, who has 17 to her name.
Byrne also added a win at No. 1 doubles alongside Miyazaki for their eighth victory as a pair this year.
The Razorbacks are 3-2 this season and come into the match following back-to-back losses to NC State and UNLV at ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Malibu, Calif. Arkansas is led by freshman standout Natsuho Arakawa, who has won 10 straight singles matches dating back to the fall.
The last meeting between the teams was Jan. 25, 2015, when the No. 58 Razorbacks edged 24th-ranked Oklahoma, 4-3, in Fayetteville. Arkansas leads the all-time series, 5-3.
