Sooners Complete Opening Round in Florida

NORMAN – The No.21 Oklahoma women's golf team finished the opening round of the 12-team Florida State Match-Up in eighth place. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,212-yard Don Veller Seminole Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Sooners shot a 295 (+7) in the round. No.12-ranked South Carolina (278;-10) tops the leaderboard followed by No. 3 Florida State currently sitting in second place at 282 (-6). No. 25 Texas A&M is in third place at 286 (-2), and Minnesota 289 (+1) sits in fourth place. Middle Tennessee shares fifth place with Missouri at 293 (+5).
Ana Ruiz led the way for the Sooners, firing a 70 (-2) in Friday's round. The junior recorded back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes helping her finish in the top 10. Ruiz shares sixth place out of 66 competitors.
Sophomore Julienne Soo finished her final hole in the opening round with a birdie. Soo shot a 73 (+1) and is tied for 22nd place. Junior Hannah Wood carded a 75 (+3 ) for a share of 34th.
Junior Rylee Pedigo joined classmate Soo in finishing her final hole with a birdie ending the day with a share of 45th place at 77 (+5). Junior Valerie Tanguay registered a 79 (+7) and is tied for 54th.
“As a whole, we did a lot of good things today,” said head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We have a few things to figure out on the range this afternoon but we have a lot of golf left. Ana played solid today, she's been putting in some serious time and effort in her game and it's fun to watch it pay off.”
