Calvo's Run at ITA All-American Comes to an End

NORMAN – Ferran Calvo's run at the ITA All-American Championships came to an end Saturday when he was defeated by North Carolina's No. 5 William Blumberg in the round of 16, 6-4, 7-5.

“Ferran has had a great start to his career. Winning 17 matches in a row is an extremely tough thing to do,” said head coach Nick Crowell. “It shows Ferran's toughness and ability to focus on the big points is at a very high level.”

The loss ended Calvo's 17-match winning streak and his perfect record since joining the Sooners prior to the start of the fall season. Calvo won eight straight matches in Tulsa to advance through the pre-qualifying and qualifying draws and earn a spot in the main bracket.

In consolation play, Spencer Papa was defeated by Florida's No. 59 Johannes Ingildsen in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The Sooners return to action on Oct. 19 at the ITA Central Regional Tournament, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
