Summer Update: Mora Makes Noise at Future

July 26, 2016 | Men's Tennis

TROYES, France – University of Oklahoma men's tennis sophomore Maxime Mora made noise on the ITF Futures circuit over the weekend. Mora advanced to the semifinals in singles and the finals in doubles at the France F15 Futures in Troyes, France.

“Max had a great week at the 25k Future in France,” first-year head coach Nick Crowell said. “It's great to see him out there working on his game in the summer and gaining confidence heading into the upcoming season.”

Playing on clay, Mora, a native of Narbonne, France, picked up singles wins over Dan Added and Maxime Hamou, both of France. Mora took set one in a tiebreaker from Hamou, currently ranked No. 415 in the world, and then won set three 6-2 to secure the win. Mora, who was making his first semifinals appearance at a Futures event, ultimately fell to No. 474 Tak Khunn Wang in the third round.

In doubles, Mora teamed with Ukranian Vadim Alekseenko to grab three wins and advance to the tournament final. Mora and Alekseeko bested Joffrey De Schepper and Alexis Musialek in the round of 16 after winning a breaker 11-9. They swept Hamou and Calvin Hemery in the quarterfinals round and won another breaker when they took down Marat Deviatiarov and Wang in the semifinals. Mora and Alekseenko dropped their match in the final against Jonathan Eysseric and Fernando Romboli in straight sets.

Mora was half of a dynamic freshman duo for Oklahoma in 2016. Mora went 13-7 in singles in his first season of collegiate tennis, helping the Sooners to their third consecutive NCAA finals appearance. Fellow freshman Andre Biro led OU in wins, going 18-6. The duo will be a big part of Oklahoma's 2017 season.

“These two guys are showing they are capable of big things at a very high level and we are excited to see them back soon,” said Crowell.
