NORMAN – Oklahoma men's tennis players Florin Bragusi and Andre Biro were named to the 2016 Big 12 Tennis All-Tournament Team, as voted on by the league's coaches, the conference announced on Monday.
This marks the first year an All-Tournament team has been named. Bragusi earned his place at No. 4 singles while Biro split the honor at No. 6 singles with Bjorn Thomson of Texas Tech. Both Sooners were unbeaten in singles at the championship, going 2-0.
A junior from Ramnicu Valcea, Romania, Bragusi is 9-6 overall in dual play this year and 11-6 overall. He has played at No. 4 singles the majority of the year, racking up a record of 6-4, but will play at No. 5 singles with the return of Andrew Harris to the lineup.
Just a freshman, Biro leads the Sooners in singles wins so far this year with 14. The Szeged, Hungary, native has been rock solid for OU at the back of the lineup, going 13-4 at the No. 6 position for in dual play.
The Sooners drew the No. 3 overall seed for the 2016 Big 12 Championship. They beat No. 6-seed Texas in the opening round of play 4-1, but fell to No. 2-seed, and eventual champion TCU in the semifinals round. That loss snapped Oklahoma's five-year streak of Big 12 final appearances that dated back to 2011.
Oklahoma will learn its NCAA Championship fate on Tuesday as the NCAA Selection Show is slated for a 4:30 p.m. CT start. The show will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
