NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma women's tennis returns home to face No. 14 Oklahoma State Saturday at noon CT for the season's second Bedlam match.
The Cowgirls (16-4, 4-0 Big 12) won the first meeting against the Sooners (7-9, 2-2 Big 12) with a 5-2 victory in Stillwater on March 5.
Heading into Saturday's match, Oklahoma has lost its last two matches, after dropping a 4-2 decision at No. 51 Baylor and falling, 4-1, at No. 35 Texas last weekend. The Cowgirls' most recent victory came over Baylor, 4-1, on the road.
“I felt like we showed some progress last weekend, and put out some very good performances," head coach Dave Mullins said. "We gave ourselves more chances than we have in the last several months. I am confident that we will build on this foundation as we had into our second matchup with Oklahoma State. Last time around they gave us some openings, but we just were not able to take advantage of those few opportunities. I hope that we can put ourselves in those positions again this coming Saturday and this time truly believe that we are capable of executing in the most crucial moments.”
In the last meeting against the Cowgirls, senior Emma Devine and junior Mimi Fotopoulos claimed victories for OU in singles. Devine defeated No. 48 Vladica Babic in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 2 position. On court four, Fotopoulos won in a three-set thriller over OSU's Kelsey Laurente, 6-4, 4-6, 2-1 (9).
OU is 22-33 all-time against the Cowgirls with the Sooners last victory over the Cowgirls coming in 2014 with a narrow 4-3 victory in Norman. Under Mullins, Oklahoma is 6-7 against Oklahoma State.
