NORMAN, Okla. -- Seven members of the Oklahoma women's tennis team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team Wednesday.
The Sooners led all teams with a record seven members. Each honoree earned a 3.20 GPA or better, with three having a 4.00 GPA.
Head coach David Mullins is proud of his team for their hard work in the classroom.
“I am very fortunate to be surrounded by players that truly embody the title of student-athlete," he said. "Our players have set high standards and goals for themselves and I have no doubt that they will continue to excel in every area of their life during their time here at OU, and long after they graduate.”
Seniors Zita Engbroks and Emma Devine received this honor for the second and third time, respectively. Engbroks will complete her business management degree in May, while Devine will graduate with a Bachelor's in human relations.
Junior Mimi Fotopoulos holds a 4.0 GPA in communication, receiving her first Academic All-Big 12 First Team honor. Sophomores Malene Stripp, Christiana Brigante, Simran Sethi and Lily Miyazaki also received a first-team award. Miyazaki, who majors in mathematics, also has a 4.0 GPA.
First team members must hold at least a 3.20 GPA or greater, while second team members must hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. Student-athletes must have a 3.00 GPA in in two previous semesters or overall while participating in at least 60 percent of their school's matches.
