WEATHER UPDATE

Due to rain, Sunday's match with Texas Tech will be played indoors following the conclusion of the women's match, which is slated for a noon start.

THE MATCHUPS

The 8th-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team will host a pair of Big 12 opponents this weekend as it plays its only two home conference matches of the year. OU will take on Baylor on Friday, April 15 at 6 p.m. CT and No. 10 Texas Tech on Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m. CT. Both matches are slated to be played outdoors, weather permitting. Should Sunday's match be forced indoors, the women's match between Oklahoma and Texas Tech will be played at noon and the men's match will take place immediately following.

LAST TIME VS. BAYLOR

The Sooners squared off with Baylor four separate times in 2015, winning all four contests. The teams twice met as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country, including at the Big 12 Championship final in Waco, a match the Sooners won 4-3. That win gave the Sooners their third conference tournament title in the last four years.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

The Bears are 14-9 on the year and sit at No. 45 in the latest ITA poll. Baylor is 1-1 in Big 12 play with a win over Texas and a loss to Texas Tech. BU had lost five straight matches dating back to the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge, but won three straight last week,' one over Texas and two over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Oklahoma celebrates the 2015 Big 12 Championship title. The Sooners took down Baylor 4-3 in Waco to earn their third tournament title in the last four years. OU went 4-0 against Baylor in 2015.

LAST TIME VS. TEXAS TECH

The Red Raiders handed OU its only regular season Big 12 loss of the year in 2015. The Sooners gave up the doubles point, but only took three singles matches, ultimately falling 4-3 in Lubbock. OU had won three in a row against TTU prior to that meeting.

SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS

Texas Tech is having one of the best years in its history, currently sitting at 23-3 and No. 10 in the country. The Red Raiders boast wins over Tulsa, Georgia, Ole Miss and Florida with their losses coming against North Carolina, Wake Forest and Rice. TTU is 1-0 in Big 12 play and has won eight of its last nine matches. Tech will take on Oklahoma State on Friday night in Stillwater.

CHASING HISTORY

Senior Axel Alvarez is nearing Sooner history. OU's ace joined 2015 graduate Dane Webb as just the second Sooner in program history to reach the 200-win mark for his career after a doubles win against Memphis on Feb. 29. Alvarez now boasts 209 total wins (95 doubles, 114 singles) and is nearing a pair of OU records. He needs just one win in singles to tie Oliver Lorin's record for career singles wins (115) and just three total wins to tie Webb's record for career wins (212).

SENIOR DAY

Sunday's match against Texas Tech will serve as Senior Day for Oklahoma. The Sooners will honor Austin Siegel and Axel Alvarez. The duo has led OU to its most successful stretch in program history. The duo has seen OU win two regular season Big 12 titles, two Big 12 tournament titles, the 2015 ITA National Indoor title and has led Oklahoma to the NCAA final in each of the last two years.

SPLIT BIG 12 START

Big 12 play started last week for Oklahoma. The Sooners dropped a close match to No. 2 TCU in Fort Worth that saw OU lose the doubles point and then split singles 3-3. The TCU match also marked the return to singles for junior Andrew Harris. The Melbourne, Australia, native had not played singles since the NCAA final in 2015 as he was sidelined with a knee injury. Two days later, OU took down No. 17 Texas in Austin. The Sooners were dominant in their sweep of the Longhorns, winning the doubles point and then taking the first three singles matches to win 4-0.

BIG 12 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Sophomore Spencer Papa picked up his first career Big 12 Player of the Week honor two weeks ago. The Edmond, Okla, native won five total matches in a span of three duals, including two ranked wins in singles to push OU to a perfect 3-0 week. Alvarez was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 24. The Asturias, Spain, native picked up a dominant, straight-sets win over No. 97 Carlos Bautista of No. 22 Tulsa to help propel the Sooners to a 4-1, road win.

BNP PARIBAS OPEN

The Sooners had the Easter weekend off, but last weekend OU earned a split against a pair of ranked teams at the 2016 BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge presented by Oracle in Indian Wells, Calif. Oklahoma fell 4-1 to No. 12 USC on the first day of play, but rebounded the following day with a 4-3 win over No. 14 California. Against the Golden Bears, OU won the doubles point, but with one match left the dual was knotted at 3-all. Ghilea delivered the clinching win by upsetting No. 10 Andre Goransonn at No. 3 singles to clinch the win for OU.

PLAYING IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Oklahoma will continue to lead collegiate tennis in televised matches this season, as the Sooners have already played three matches on live TV this season. Friday's match will be Oklahoma's fourth played on live TV and its third home match. OU could see even more televised action if it makes a deep run in the postseason. In addition to its early-season match with Wake Forest, Oklahoma also played live on Fox against No. 4 Ohio State. The Sooners also played live on ESPN3 in its win over No. 22 Florida State. The Sooners played a total of seven televised matches in 2015.

BIG 12 DYNASTY

The Sooners are seeking an unprecedented fifth consecutive conference title in 2016 as they navigate conference play. Oklahoma earned a share of the regular season title in 2015 and then claimed its third Big 12 Tournament title in the last four years last four years (2012, 2013, 2015) with a pair of wins at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas. After receiving a first-round bye, Oklahoma topped Texas 4-3 in the semifinal round to advance to the final where it would face Baylor for the fourth time on the year. In the final, the Sooners outlasted the Bears to win 4-3 and claim the Big 12 Championships title.
