Sooners Drop Season Opener to Wichita State

Oklahoma Travels to UNLV Wednesday

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma women's tennis travels to Las Vegas Wednesday to face the No. 59 UNLV Rebels at 12:30 p.m. CT. 

The Rebels are 15-0 this season. The most recent victory came over Boise State March 13 in a 6-1 decision on the road. UNLV's 5-2 home win over No. 61 Old Dominion is its only win over a ranked opponent this year.

The Sooners (5-6) have not played UNLV since 2011, winning 4-1 at Stanford. OU is 2-7 all-time against the Rebels. During their last trip to Las Vegas in 2009, the Sooners dropped a 6-1 decision. Under head coach David Mullins, Oklahoma is 1-1 against UNLV. OU has lost three straight meetings against the Rebels in Las Vegas.

The Sooners have already made one trip to Las Vegas this year. During fall tournament play, three Sooners made the trip to the Rebel Women's Tennis Invitational. 

Sophomores Christiana Brigante and Lily Miyazaki, along with junior Mimi Fotopoulos represented the Crimson and Cream. Miyazaki won the No. 1 singles draw and Brigante won the consolation side of at No. 3. Fotopoulos fell in the consolation final at the No. 2 line.

On the doubles side, Fotopoulos and Miyazaki went 2-1, winning the consolation side of the doubles bracket.

Heading into Wednesday's match, OU has lost two straight matches. The first of those losses came at No. 16 Oklahoma State, the second at No. 23 Tulsa.
