Sooners Improve to Third After Round Two

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team fired a 291 (+4) in Saturday's second round of the Clover Cup to move up one spot to third place. The 17-team event is being played at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
The Sooners, who have tallied a 581 (+5) over two rounds, are just five strokes off tournament leader TCU. SMU is in second place at 577 (+1), and UNCW (+8) and Notre Dame (+13) are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Rylee Pedigo is pacing the Sooners in the event, sharing fourth place out of 99 competitors with a 141 (-3) over two rounds. The sophomore bested her day-one score of 71 (-1) with a 70 (-2) on Saturday. Pedigo pocketed five birdies in the round, including four in her front nine holes.
Classmate Hannah Wood is in sole possession of sixth place with a two-round 142 (-2). Wood posted a 74 (+2) in Saturday's round to add to her impressive opening-day 68 (-4).
Sophomore Ana Ruiz improved on her first-round score by three strokes, carding a 72 (E) on the day. Ruiz is tied for 15th place.
Valerie Tanguay shot a 75 (+3) on Saturday and is tied for 39th place at 152 (+8), and Karen Arimoto shares 72nd place with a 160 (+16) after recording an 84 (+12) in the second round.
Freshman Julienne Soo is playing as an individual in the tournament and is unattached from team scoring. Soo fired a 75 (+3) in the second round and shares 51st with a two-round 155 (+11).
“We played well again today,” OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “The wind made it tricky on our back nine, but we were able to finish strong. Rylee (Pedigo) played solid today. I'm really proud of how she stuck with the game plan.”
The Sooners tee off for the third and final round of the Clover Cup on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT in a shotgun start.
