Oklahoma Takes on Oregon, Undefeated Iowa

February 18, 2016 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 53 Oklahoma women's tennis is back in Norman for a pair of matches against the Oregon Ducks and Iowa Hawkeyes. The match with Oregon is set for Friday at 5 p.m., while the Iowa match will be played Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Sooners (3-3) faced both teams on the road last season, beating Oregon, 6-1, and Iowa, 4-0. In head coach David Mullins' tenure, OU is undefeated against both Oregon and Iowa.

"These matches were always going to be tough even if our preparation had been perfect. We need to give ourselves a good shot at all three doubles spots and then hopefully our healthiest players can lead the charge to grabbing three singles matches on both Friday and Sunday," he said.

Oregon is 3-2 on the year with only one win on their home court. Both of their losses came to fellow Big 12 opponents No. 30 Baylor and No. 10 Texas Tech.  The only meeting between the Sooners and Ducks in the Mullins era was the 6-1 victory by the Sooners in Eugene, Ore., last season.

Oklahoma has faced Iowa (6-0) every season since 2012, earning four straight victories over the Hawkeyes. Last season's win was a 4-0 shutout victory by the Sooners in Iowa City, Iowa.

"I'm interested to see how we respond to the adversity we have faced these last few weeks. I know we were all very disappointed and frustrated with how things have gone for us recently but I will believe it will make us more adaptable later in the season when we need to be at our best," Mullins said.
