NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 36 Oklahoma women's tennis hits the road to face SMU and North Texas for a pair of matches, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Saturday's match will begin at 1 p.m. and Sunday's match will be played at noon.
The Sooners (3-1) faced both teams last season, shutting out both in Norman. In head coach David Mullins' tenure, OU is undefeated against both North Texas and SMU.
"They have a talented team with some big weapons, and we will need accept the fact that they are going to hit some fantastic shots at times," Mullins said.
SMU is 4-0 on the year with all four victories coming on their home court. The only meeting between the Sooners and Mustangs in the Mullins era was a 4-0 sweep by OU at home in 2015. Prior to last season, the last road dual match between the two programs was in 2004 with the Sooners picking up a 4-3 victory in Dallas.
Against North Texas, OU is 11-3 all-time. The Sooners are 4-0 in the Mullins era against the Mean Green.
"North Texas has added some very good players to the top of their lineup and we are preparing for a very tough outing. We saw how good they were at our fall event and we know all too well what they are capable of doing," he said.
During the 2015 OU Fall Invite, OU was 1-5 in singles and 2-0 in doubles against North Texas. Sophomore Christiana Brigante and redshirt junior Mimi Fotopoulos captured both victories in doubles play. North Texas is currently 1-4 in spring dual play, with their lone win, 6-1, coming over Central Arkansas at home.
"Ultimately, we cannot worry about a few results not going our way last September. As long as we continue to compete the way we have these last three matches, and continue to look for solutions when things get tough, then we will be giving ourselves the best chance at coming out with two victories by Sunday," Mullins said.
"We have a couple of big weekends coming up these next two weeks, but right now we are just focusing on improving a few aspects of our doubles game and being as ready as we can possibly be for SMU."
