Sooners in First Place Through Round One

NORMAN – The No. 23 Oklahoma women's golf team came out of the gate strong at the Landfall Tradition on Friday, finishing at the top of the leaderboard after round one. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,166-yard Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The 18-team event features eight top-25 teams.

The Sooners shot a 284 (-4) to tie their best round in relation to par this season. No. 13 Wake Forest currently sits in second place at 288 (E) followed by No. 12 Purdue (291; +3). No. 20 UCF and No. 1 Alabama share fourth place at 293 (+5). 

Hannah Wood paced the Sooners, firing a 69 (-3) to lead the 96-player field. The junior now owns four rounds in the 60s this season. Classmate Valerie Tanguay joined Wood in the top five of the leaderboard with a share of second place at 70 (-2). Tanguay, who collected three birdies in the round, played bogey free through 16 holes before bogeying hole 17.

Sophomore Julienne Soo finished with a share of 13th (72; E) for her seventh round at par or better this season. Junior Ana Ruiz registered a 73 (+1) and is tied for 19th, and classmate Rylee Pedigo shot a 75 (+3) for a share of 37th. 

“What a day! We played solid all day today,” said head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “I'm really proud of the girls and how they held it together throughout the round. We love this golf course and we're having a blast out there. We're excited for round two tomorrow.”
