Men's Tennis Adds Two for Spring Season

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men's tennis coach John Roddick announced Wednesday the signing of Andre Biro and Maxime Mora to National Letters of Intent to compete for the Sooners beginning in the spring of 2016.

“We are just excited to add Andre and Max to our team,” Roddick said. “We feel like they are going to be really valuable additions. Most importantly I think they will fit in well with our team because I know they both work hard and are experienced.”

Biro, a native of Hungary, joins the Sooners after rising as high as No. 38 in the ITF junior rankings. Biro also recorded several ATP Pro Circuit wins this fall. Mora is one of the highest rated juniors in his home country of France. Both players have experience at high levels of competition, boasting extensive junior careers and pro circuit matches.

“Their results speak for themselves,” Roddick said. “Max has been one of the top French players for really his whole junior career and Andre was a top-40 player in the world during juniors and has a lot of experience. We always worry about developing players and trying to get them to the highest level. That is what we are going to help them with. They definitely have the ability to get to that point.”

The talented freshmen will join a loaded Sooner squad that returns five starters from the 2015 team that won the Big 12 Championship and finished as the national runner-up. The youngsters will have to adjust quickly to make an impact in 2016.

“Coming in January is always a challenge because it's a sprint to May,” Roddick said. “They have to be willing to be uncomfortable at times. As we get into February and March I think they are going to do a lot of good things. We will have an opportunity to see a lot of guys play a lot of matches this year. From a coaching standpoint we are excited about that. We are fortunate to have them on our roster and excited to get them out at practice.”

The Sooners start the 2016 season this weekend as they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to take part in the 2016 MLK Invitational. The Sooners begin play Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. CT as they take on host school Georgia Tech.
