Round-Two Results

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished the final round of the third annual Schooner Fall Classic in sixth place with a two-round 574 (+6). The 12-team event was played at the par-71, 5,901-yard Belmar Golf Club in Norman.

The tournament, which was originally scheduled as a three-day, 54-hole event, was changed to 36 holes after Sunday's round was canceled due to storms in the area. The Sooners fired a 283 (-1) in Monday's round, marking the first time an OU team has recorded a round under par since the third round of the 2013 Big 12 Championship.

No. 15-ranked Oklahoma State finished at the top of the leaderboard with a 554 (-6). No. 10 Texas A&M (561;-7) completed the tournament in second place and Mississippi State placed third with a 565 (-3).

OU's Hannah Wood bogeyed the second hole in Monday's round but responded with seven birdies over the next 16 holes en route to a career-best 66 (-5). The sophomore completed the tournament with a two-round 137 (-5), tying for fourth place out of 66 competitors.

“This is a huge confidence booster for me,” Wood said. “I didn't realize it was my best round ever until I walked off the 18 green. There is no better way to come off our home tournament than shooting my lowest round. It gives me more confidence heading into the rest of our fall season.”

Oklahoma sophomore Rylee Pedigo registered a 71 (E) on the day and finished in a career-best share of sixth place at 138 (-4). Pedigo shot a personal-best 67 (-4) in the first round of the tournament. Classmate Valerie Tanguay carded a 71 (E) in the second round and shared 19th place at 143 (+1).

Sophomores Haley Hill and Ana Ruiz and freshman Karen Arimoto played as individuals in the event are were unattached from team scoring.

Ruiz carded a 71 (E) on the day, finishing with a two-round 143 (+1). She tied for 19th place with teammate Tanguay. Arimoto logged a 74 (+3) in the round and shared 39th place in her first collegiate event at 149 (+7).

Hill registered a collegiate-best tournament sharing 44th place at 151 (+9). Her rounds of 76 (+5) and 75 (+4) marked the two best in her career.

Seventh-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she was happy to see her team's long and short-term adjustments.

“I'm really proud of where we were last year and then moving forward to where we are now. There's been a lot of progress and I'm excited to see us play some more,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We've been working really hard out here. You could even see that it was a little bit easier out there for us today than it was on Saturday. It's exciting to see.”

The Sooners will return to the course on Oct. 4-6 when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the Jim West Challenge.
