Sooners Set for Big 12 Championship
April 23, 2015 | Women's Golf
NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team returns to the course this weekend in San Antonio, Texas, for the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship. The nine-team tournament will be played Friday-Sunday (April 24-26) at the par-72, 6,333-yard Dominion Country Club.
The Sooners are coming off a 10th-place finish at the elite PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. OU logged a three-round 880 (+16) in a 15-team field that featured 12 of Golfweek's top 25 teams. Freshman Ana Ruiz paced Oklahoma, firing a 215 (-1) and finishing in a career-best 10th-place tie.
Sixth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said her team is playing well as it aims to qualify for a fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
“Postseason is a new season, and there is definitely some excitement, especially after how well we played in our last tournament. That was encouraging to everyone,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “The girls are putting in the time and effort, so to see it pay off toward the end of the season is really exciting. Hopefully we can carry that energy into Big 12s this weekend.”
The Sooners are the No. 7 seed in the championship and will tee off Friday at 10 a.m. CT with No. 8 seed Kansas and No. 9 seed Kansas State.
