NORMAN – The top-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team will try to win its 20^th match of the season Wednesday night as it plays host to No. 27 Tulsa at 5 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

CHASING HISTORY

This season's incredible play has two Sooners shooting up the all-time wins list. Senior Dane Webb has 20 wins so far in the 2014-15 season and now has 102 in his career. That number is the second most in program history behind Oliver Lorin's 145 (1985-88). Webb is on pace to best his single-season career-high in wins of 31 recorded last season.

Axel Alvarez is also climbing the list. The junior is 29-4 to this point in the season and has 93 career wins, good for sixth all-time in program history. Alvarez is also on pace to best his single-season wins mark of 37, also from last season.

With plenty of matches left to be played, Alvarez ranks 10^th in career matches played with 114 while Webb sits tied for fourth with Dusty Beard (1997-00) at 133.

Webb has also made his mark on the doubles records. Webb is 103-35 in doubles so far in his Oklahoma career. His 103 wins break the previous program record of 97 set by Travis Rich (1990-93). Webb is also second in all-time matches played with 138, just two shy of the program record held by Beard. Webb has paired with Alvarez for all of his doubles matches this season. The duo in 26-6 so far in 2014-15, just eight wins shy of breaking Alvarez's 2014 single-season record of 33. Alvarez is also climbing the doubles list. His career record of 80-24 is good for fourth all-time in wins, just one behind Rick Lashley (1972-75) for third place.

Oklahoma is also closing in on all-time marks as a team. One more win would put the Sooners in a four-way tie for ninth with the 1981, 1992 and 2007 Sooner squads with 20 wins. The school record for wins in a season is 28 (2014/1977).

TOP DAWG

For the fifth week in a row and the seventh time in school history, the Sooners are ranked No. 1 by the ITA. Oklahoma sits atop the poll with 86.36 points, more than eight points more than second place Baylor, who the Sooners have beaten twice so far this season.

The Sooners' current streak is the only time in program history the team has been No. 1 in consecutive weeks. The team occupied the top spot for a single week immediately following its title at the indoor championships in February and in 2014 after topping Ohio State at home.

WINNING WAYS

The Sooners have earned the top spot with incredible play. The Sooners have 14 wins over teams ranked in the top-25 in the latest ITA poll and six wins over teams in the top-10. Oklahoma is 19-1 to this point in the season having won the ITA National Indoor Championship, the Oracle Classic and having broken Ohio State's 200-match home win streak.

OU is riding a nine-match win streak, just one win from tying its season-best 10 straight wins to open the 2015 season.

DOUBLE TAKE

Oklahoma has struggled at times this season to win doubles. OU has lost the doubles point eight times, but went on to win the dual in seven of those instances. An emphasis on doubles play has the Sooners thriving in recent matches.

The Sooners have won the doubles point in their last three matches, all against top-10 opponents, including handing Baylor it's only doubles loss of the season in the finals at the Oracle Classic. Oklahoma is undefeated when winning the doubles point.

DOMINANT DUO

Oklahoma has been nearly untouchable in the top two singles spots. Axel Alvarez is undefeated in dual play this year at 16-0. The junior has played much of the year at No. 2 singles, and has dropped only one set in a completed match all season. Alvarez is currently ranked as the No. 2 player in the nation by the ITA.

Andrew Harris, ranked No. 13, has anchored the top spot for Oklahoma for most of the season. The sophomore from Melbourne, Australia is 10-4 at No. 1 singles, and is fresh off a straight-sets win over the nation's top-ranked player Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas. The loss was just Hess-Olesen's second of the year.

SOONERS RANKED

Two other Sooners join Alvarez and Harris in the ITA's singles rankings. Dane Webb comes in at No. 23 and sophomore Alex Ghilea rounds out the list at No. 65. The Sooners' top doubles tandem of Alvarez and Webb are ranked No. 6.

SCOUTING REPORT: TULSA

The Golden Hurricane enters Wednesday's match ranked No. 20 by the ITA with a record of 15-9. Tulsa upset No. 7 USC in Los Angeles and then topped No. 11 Ohio State at home two weeks later. TU is 5-6 against common opponents so far this season.
