Three Conference Matches Televised

NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma women's tennis team announced Tuesday that three of its matches in the month of March will be broadcast live on soonersports.tv, then replayed on Fox Sports Oklahoma and other Fox Sports outlets. The slate features conference rivals No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 35 Texas, and No. 6 Baylor.

“It's amazing and it's not something we have been able to settle in the past really as a sport,” said OU head coach David Mullins. “Promoting our sport is a step in the right direction for everybody.”

Oklahoma's March 1 Bedlam matchup will lead off the action. It will be available live on soonersports.tv at noon and replayed on Fox Sports Oklahoma at a later date.

The next two matches showcase the Red River Rivalry and a potential matchup with a Top 10 opponent as the Texas Longhorns and Baylor Bears pay Norman a visit the weekend of March 13-15. The match against Texas will stream live at 5 p.m. Friday, while the match against Baylor will stream live at noon Sunday.

“It's great for the families as well,” said Mullins. “We have players from all over the world and very few of them are able to make it to more than a handful of matches throughout their kid's career so this is a way to get them more involved in the program.”

The televised matches will give the Sooners opportunities to showcase their biggest home matches of the season at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

“It's nice to be able to show recruits that we're going to be on TV,” said Mullins. “How many other programs can boast that? That's something we can use going forward.”
