Sooners Head to Chicago for Wildcat Duals

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team travels to Chicago this weekend to compete at the Wildcat Fall Duals. The dual-match style tournament will feature The Sooners, host Northwestern, DePaul and Yale.

Play begins Friday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. with OU facing DePaul in doubles. The Sooners will bring sophomores Lily Miyazaki, Simran Sethi, Christie Brigante and Malene Stripp along with redshirt junior Mimi Fotopoulos and senior Emma Devine to the three-day tournament that runs Friday through Sunday.

Head coach Dave Mullins said the level of play will be more intense than last year's tournament at Northwestern.

“This year it's just us, DePaul, Yale and Northwestern playing a dual match type format,” Mullins said. “We won't play as many matches and the level will be a little higher than last year. Every win out there will be a very good win for us.”

The Sooners will play both singles and doubles matches to prep for the spring season. Doubles play has been a strong point for the team this fall, with a 12-8 record across three tournaments.

Mullins said the team has worked hard over the last few weeks to improve for this tough match-up.

“We have had some very good practices these past few weeks. The team has worked hard to improve some fundamental areas of their games. We needed a lot of work on being a little more disciplined with our shot selection and form a willingness to play longer points. I believe we have improved and I look forward to watching how we implement this mindset over the weekend.”
