NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma head women's tennis coach David Mullins announced Monday the signing of Ann Selim and Julie Byrne to National Letters of Intent to compete for the Sooners beginning in the fall of 2016.

“We are thrilled that Ann will be joining us next fall. She has spent the last few years honing in on her skills and competing against some of the best players in Southern California,” Mullins said. “There is no doubt she has been tested at a very high level and we anticipate that she will make an immediate impact on our lineup.”

Selim is rated a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net and is a native of Irvine, Calif. She's ranked as the ninth best player in California and the 41st best player in the nation. Selim moved to California from Cairo, Egypt, at 14-years-old to advance her tennis career.

“Her game is built upon her consistent, yet aggressive, baseline game and her competitive attitude," Mullins said. "Ann plans to major in engineering and we have no doubt that she will excel in the classroom, as well as on the court.”

Byrne joins the Sooners from Dublin, Ireland and has been ranked as high as 356 in the ITF World Junior rankings. She has won three ITF events in her junior career including taking home singles titles from events in Riga, Latvia, as well as Liverpool and Nottingham, England.

“Julie is the first Irish player to play here since I have taken over the program. I am very excited to coach someone from my home country. I have no doubt she is going to fit right in with my coaching style,” Mullins said.

With the recent doubles success, Mullins hopes Byrne will help them further their success.

“She is an outstanding doubles player and I know she is going to have a lot of success in the college game in the years ahead.”
