ATHENS, Ga. – Oklahoma men's tennis players Austin Siegel and John Milstead turned in a solid first day of competition at the 2015 Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga., on Friday. The tournament is hosted by the University of Georgia and features round robin play in both singles and doubles.

The Sooner duo started the day off right with a 6-3 win over Conor Haughey and Kevin Lam of Harvard in doubles during the morning session of play.

During the afternoon singles session, Siegel, a senior, picked up a three-set win over Nicolas Montoya of Notre Dame. Siegel took the first set 6-3 but dropped the second after a 6-8 loss in a tiebreaker. Siegel would outlast Montoya 6-3 in the third to claim the match.

“Austin did a great job of fighting through a tough match today,” head coach John Roddick said. “It's always tough to regroup after having match points in the second set and have to go into a third. He handled it very well.”

Milstead dropped his first singles match of the tournament. The redshirt freshman fell 6-1, 6-3 to Chris Morrow of Harvard.

“Even though John lost, he did a good job of competing in the second set,” Roddick said. “He is learning and improving with each match.”

Both Sooners will be back in action on Saturday as round robin play continues in both singles and doubles.
