FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Oklahoma men's tennis player Alex Ghilea competed in the 2015 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships (NIIC) on Thursday at the Billy Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
A junior from Neamt, Romania, Ghilea fell in straight sets to 15th-ranked Cameron Norrie of TCU in the first round of the 32-player singles draw. Ghilea, ranked No. 50 by the ITA, qualified for the NIIC by virtue of his singles title at the 2015 ITA Central Region Championships in October.
Fellow Sooners Austin Siegel and John Milstead will be in action this weekend as they take part in the 2015 Bulldog scramble in Athens, Ga., hosted by the University of Georgia. The tournament features round robin play in both singles and doubles beginning Friday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. CT and running through Sunday, Nov. 15.
