NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team wraps up its fall tournament season with the Rebel Tennis Women's Invitational at UNLV this weekend. Singles and doubles play runs Friday through Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Sooners traveling to Las Vegas include sophomores Christie Brigante and Lily Miyazaki and redshirt junior Mimi Fotopoulos. OU is fresh off an undefeated weekend at Northwestern's Wildcat Fall Duals.
“They will be looking to build upon their great play out in Chicago last weekend,” Oklahoma head coach Dave Mullins said. “They will have a number of good opportunities competing against several top 20 teams in both singles and doubles. There is no doubt they are more than ready to compete at this level.”
Miyazaki went undefeated in singles and doubles last weekend to earn tournament MVP honors in Chicago. She will play Aiwen Zhu of UNLV in the first round of the No. 1 singles draw Friday at 1 p.m. CT.
Fotopoulos won four of six matches at Northwestern, picking up two doubles victories with Miyazaki. She will face Texas A&M's Saska Gavrilovska in the first round of the No. 2 singles flight on Friday at 1 p.m. CT. Gavrilovska, a junior from Serbia, made the round of 16 for the Aggies at the 2015 NCAA Championships in singles.
Brigante rounds out the lineup for the Sooners and will take on Jessica Golovin of LSU in the No. 3 flight at 1 p.m. CT Friday. Brigante was 2-1 in her singles matches at the Wildcat Duals.
Miyazaki and Fotopoulos will once again be paired for doubles. The tandem will begin play Friday at noon CT by facing USC's Zoe Katz and Jessica Failla. Miyazaki and USC's Failla previously met in singles in the prequalifying round at the ITA/Rivera All-American Championships in October. Miyazaki battled to three sets, but fell 1-6, 3-6, 4-6.
