NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished the third and final round of the Jim West Challenge in ninth place at 884 (+20). The 13-team tournament was played at the par-72, 6,373-yard Tapatio Springs Golf Resort in Boerne, Texas.
The Sooners saved their best round for last, firing a 291 (+3). No. 7-ranked Kent State, the only team under par in the event, finished at the top of the leaderboard with a three-round 852 (-12). Florida State placed second at 864 (E), and Texas A&M came in third place at 867 (+3).
OU's Hannah Wood extended her par-or-better streak to five straight rounds after registering a 72 (E) on the day. The sophomore shared 11th place out of 72 competitors with a 215 (-1).
Sophomore Ana Ruiz recorded a 73 (+1) in Tuesday's round and tied for 28th place at 222 (+6).
Sophomores Rylee Pedigo and Valerie Tanguay shared 36th place, each logging a three-round 224 (+8). Pedigo shot a 74 (+2) in the final round while Tanguay registered a tournament-best 72 (E).
OU freshman Julienne Soo also tallied a tournament best, firing a 74 (+2) on the day. Soo finished tied for 57th place at 231 (+15).
OU sophomore Haley Hill played as an individual in the event and was unattached from team scoring. Hill improved in the final round, carding a 78 (+6). She finished in 71st place at 244 (+28).
Seventh-year OU Head Coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she was happy to see her team adapt to the course throughout the tournament.
“We played better today as a team,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “I'm really proud of how the team accepted the challenges I gave them last night. We have to remember the good shots and keep with them us heading into our next tournament.”
The Sooners return to the course on Oct. 19-20 for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
