Sooners Complete Weekend in California, South Carolina

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women's tennis team completed play in separate tournaments Sunday. Sophomore Lily Miyazaki lost in the second round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., while the remainder of the team wrapped up the South Carolina Fall Invitational in Columbia, S.C.

Miyazaki began play on Saturday in the pre-qualifying round of the Rivera/ITAAll-American at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Miyazaki beat Elianne Douglas-Miron of Washington in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6). She moved on to the second round Sunday, facing Jessica Failla of USC, but fell 6-1, 3-6, 4-6.

The Sooners also completed two days of play in Columbia, S.C. The third day of the tournament was called off due to heavy rain and flooding in the area.

On Friday, Oklahoma faced South Carolina in the first singles match of the weekend. Sophomore Simran Sethi picked up the first win of the weekend, beating Hadley Berg in three sets, 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (9). Fellow sophomore Malene Stripp also got a win over South Carolina's Rachel Rohrabacher, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6). Senior Emma Devine capped off the team's win over the Gamecocks with a three-set victory over South Carolina's Paige Cline, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (3).

Stripp and redshirt junior Mimi Fotopoulos faced Oleksandra Shkorupereva and Peyton Jennings of Arkansas in the first set of doubles matches played. Stripp/Fotopoulos won, 6-2. Devine/Sethi lost to Flavia Araujo and Mia Jurasic, 3-6.

The Sooners played Arkansas in singles for their first match on Saturday, with the only win coming from Devine, 6-2, 6-2, over Araujo.

Stripp/Sethi faced William & Mary's Olivia Thaler and Deepa Dhore in Saturday's doubles play, earning a 6-1 win.

The Sooners continue their fall tournament schedule with the ITA Central Regional Championships, beginning on Oct. 15 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.
