NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma women's tennis team wrapped up play in the ITA Central Regional Championship in Stillwater, Okla. Sunday.
Sophomore Lily Miyazaki advanced to the round of 16 in main draw of singles play. On Friday, Miyazaki defeated Maddie Johnson of Drake, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. She topped Athena Chrysanthou of Southern Illinois, 6-1, 6-1, in the round of 32 before falling 6-0, 6-1 to Kansas' Anastasia Rychagova.
Sophomores Malene Stripp and Simran Sethi also earned singles wins in the main draw. Stripp defeated Alex Bergman of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-1, to advance. She lost to Nina Khmelnitckaia of Kansas, 3-6, 6-1, to end her run on Friday.
Sethi beat Oral Roberts' CeCe Cornelius, 6-0, 6-1, to begin the tournament. In the round of 32, she battled Iowa's Anastasia Reimchen of Iowa to three sets before dropping a heartbreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 0-6.
Senior Emma Devine made it to the Round of 32 in the top singles bracket. She beat Ann-Christine Link of SIU–Edwardsville, 6-3, 6-2, to begin play. Devine was defeated by Tulsa's Mahitha Daddireddy of Tulsa, 4-6, 4-6, to finish the weekend.
In doubles, two Sooners tandems made it to the round of 32. Miyazaki/Sethi beat Elizabeth Gould and Sydney Harlow of Nebraska, 8-2, to begin doubles play before falling to Cassidy Spearman and Brianna Lashway of Missouri, 8-5, to end their run.
Devine/Stripp beat Johnson and Miller of Nebraska–Omaha 8-2, but ended their run after an 8-4 loss to Oklahoma State's Kelsey Laurente and Maria Alvarez.
The Sooners are back in action Friday, Nov. 6, at the Northwestern Invite in Chicago, Ill.
