Ghilea to Play for Central Region Singles Title

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma men's tennis player Alex Ghilea continued his run of quality play at the 2015 ITA Central Region Championships with a win in the semifinals round on the singles draw on Sunday.

After earning his place in the semifinal with four wins over the weekend, third-seeded Ghilea squared off with No. 10 seed Michael Redlicki of Arkansas. Ghilea controlled the match from start to finish and won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, punching his ticket to Sunday's final.

“He played one of the best matches I've seen him play since he's been at OU,” head coach John Roddick said. “He competed great and his execution was really solid. He has a great opportunity tomorrow.”

With the win, Ghilea has the chance to extend the Sooners' streak of regional singles titles to six. A Sooner has won the title in each year dating back to 2010.Ghilea will face Julian Cash of Oklahoma State at 10 a.m. Monday morning. Live scoring will be available here.
