September 27, 2014 | Women's Tennis
The Oklahoma women's tennis team finished day two at the Northwestern Invite with great results from young players. Sophomore Ann Pepper and freshman Brooke Withrow won both of their doubles matches and combined to go 4-0 in their singles matches.
After defeating Colleen O'Brien and Emmy Virkus of Michigan State by a score of 8-1, Pepper and Withrow defeated Brooke Richbieth of Northwestern and Callie Frey of Pittsburgh 8-3 to advance to the consolation final of the Gray Flight.
“Our doubles play was much improved today,” said head coach David Mullins. “I believe we made some progress in that department.”
Pepper also advanced to the consolation final of the Black Flight by defeating Kate Lanier of Kentucky 6-3, 6-2, and Emily Meyers of Michigan State 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Christie Brigante gained valuable experience and won her first singles match of the day over Daphne Friedrichs of Eastern Michigan 6-0, 6-4. She finished with a combined singles and doubles record of 2-2.
“I was really impressed with Christie today,” said Mullins. “Even though she went 2-2 on the day she found ways to improve and work through some things during her matches.”
Play will resume at 9 a.m. Sunday.
