The Oklahoma women's tennis team will be traveling to Chicago, Ill., this weekend for the Northwestern Invite and Lily Miyazaki will travel to an ITF Pro Circuit event in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Sooners will participate in the Northwestern Invite, held Friday through Sunday, with eight other schools consisting of Depaul, Florida International, Kentucky, Michigan State, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, University of Illinois – Chicago, and Western Kentucky.

"It will be good for us to get on the road now and see if we can replicate some of our fine play this past weekend in unfamiliar surroundings,” said head coach David Mullins. “We will see some new doubles combinations also, so I have no doubt we will continue to learn a great deal throughout the weekend."

The Northwestern Invite consists of two singles draws of 32 players each and two doubles draws of 16 pairs each.

Participating in the purple flight are junior Zita Engbroks, senior Abbi Melrose, sophomore Morgan Chumney and freshman Christiana Brigante, while sophomore Ann Pepper, junior Emma Devine, freshman Malene Stripp and freshman Brooke Withrow will compete in the Black Flight.

The Sooners will have different doubles pairings this weekend. Chumney and Brigante will participate in the White Flight along with Stripp and Engbroks. In the gray flight, Pepper and Withrow will compete, as well as Devine and Melrose.

In South Carolina, Lily Miyazki will compete in the main draw at Hilton Head and is the only collegiate player. All other players in the draw are professionals.

"It will kind of be business as usual for Lily,” said Mullins. “These are the types of events she is accustomed to competing in and she will face off against some very tough competition right of the bat."

The tournament will take place at the Van de Meer Shipyard Raquet Club.
