ITA Preseason Ranks Feature Trio of Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. -- Three Oklahoma men's tennis players appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) initial preseason rankings.

Junior Axel Alvarez Llamas is the highest ranked Sooner at No. 3. Alvarez finished the 2014 season ranked No. 6 in singles and was named an ITA All-American. Alvarez notched a 21-5 record in dual play last season including a 7-2 mark at No. 1 singles.

Dane Webb sits at No. 16 on the ITA list. The current senior also earned All-America honors in 2014 and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team at No. 3 singles. Webb finished the year ranked No. 27 in singles and No. 24 in doubles with partner Andrew Harris. Webb also earned the Big 12 title at No. 3 singles by virtue of an undefeated 4-0 mark in conference play.

Sophomore Andrew Harris comes in at No. 40 in the initial rankings. Harris notched a 20-5 record in dual play last season and was an invaluable asset for Oklahoma in doubles play. His doubles teams finished 16-9 in 2014.

The duo of Webb and Alvarez begin the year ranked No. 40 in the ITA doubles rankings. Alvarez and Webb partnered just five times in 2014 finishing 3-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Head coach John Roddick has had two or more Sooners ranked in the ITA preseason rankings in each of his six seasons at the helm for OU.

Oklahoma opens the fall portion of its schedule Friday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga.
