Sooners Split Results at NCAA Championships

NORMAN, Okla.—Oklahoma's Dane Webb advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship, Thursday, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.

After upsetting No. 19 Harrison Adams on Wednesday, Webb continued his dominant playing streak by upsetting No. 11 Peter Kobelt of Ohio State. The junior won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

Webb has now won three straight matches at the tournament after falling to Mackenzie McDonald of UCLA in the quarterfinals of the team championship.

Andrew Harris, ranked No. 53 in the nation, saw his NCAA journey end with a 7-5, 6-4 loss to No. 55 Ben McLachlan of California. Harris ended his freshman campaign with a 21-6 record.

Harris and doubles partner Webb were to compete in the doubles portion of the tournament but withdrew Thursday afternoon.

Webb will face No. 47 Roberto Cid of South Florida on Friday, May 23 in the Sweet Sixteen of the singles draw.
