NORMAN, Okla.-- University of Oklahoma head women's tennis coach David Mullins announced today the signing of Yuriko “Lily” Miyazaki to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Sooners beginning in the fall of 2014.
“Lily brings a lot of high quality junior and professional experience with her to college,” Mullins said. “Lily's goal is to be a professional tennis player after her college career, and she believes that OU provides her with all that she will need in order to reach that goal.”
Miyazaki is currently ranked 829 in the Women's Tennis Association world rankings. She reached a career high ranking of 198 in the International Tennis Federation junior world rankings in 2013.
“Lily is a very athletic, well coached player that will make an immediate impact on our lineup and the national collegiate scene. She is a very intelligent young lady who will represent OU with a great amount of class and pride on and off the tennis court. We are thrilled that Lily will be joining our program, and I am personally very excited to start working with her on a daily basis.”
Representing the fifth foreign country on OU's roster, Miyazaki joins the Sooners from Tokyo, Japan. Next season, the women's tennis team will feature student athletes from England, Scotland, Denmark and Germany as well.
Miyazaki will join Christiana Brigante, Malene Stripp and Brooke Withrow, who filed NLIs in November 2013 as newcomers to the 2014-15 OU women's tennis team.
