KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Oklahoma men's tennis player Andrew Harris fell in the second round of qualifying at the Knoxville Challenger in Knoxville, Tenn. on Monday.
Harris fell to American Eric Quigley 0-6, 6(6)-7 in the second round of prequalifying after having toppled Dennis Novikov, also of the U.S., in the first round on Sunday.
“Andrew did a great job of competing yesterday against a very good player,” associate head coach Bo Hodge said. “Today he started slow, but was able to get himself back in the match and lost a close second set.”
The Melbourne, Australia native is now 3-2 in singles matches this fall. Harris won two matches over ranked opponents and advanced to the third round of main draw singles at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this fall.
“Overall he continues to get better,” Hodge said. “I know he's excited about how he's playing going into his final tournament this weekend in Athens.”
Harris will be back in action this week at the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Georgia, Nov. 7-9. He will be joined by fellow sophomore Alex Ghilea. Ghilea went 3-0 in singles at the Bulldog Scramble in 2013.
Junior Axel Alvarez and Senior Dane Webb will also be in action for the Sooners this week. The pair will represent the Sooners at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y. starting Nov. 6.
