Women's Tennis Releases Spring Schedule

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma Head Women's Tennis Coach David Mullins and Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Joe Castiglione announced the Sooners' spring 2015 schedule Wednesday.

The Sooners are set to open the season at 1 p.m. on Jan. 20 at the Headington Family Tennis Center against North Texas. The team is set to host a total of 10 dual matches in both conference and non-conference play.

“I think this fall showed us that we cannot look past anyone,” head coach David Mullins said. “We are going to have to really fight for every win and nothing is going to come easy.”

Highlighting road play are the 2015 Big 12 Championships, held in Waco, Texas, from April 23-26. The spring slate will also include weekend trips to Fayetteville, Ark., Eugene, Ore., and Charleston, S.C., along with visits to several Big 12 schools, including Iowa State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.

The Sooners will host in-state rival Oklahoma State at the OU Tennis Club on March 1 at noon and make the return trip on April 3 at 5 p.m. in Stillwater.

“The Big 12 continues to improve and hopefully our non-conference schedule will prepare us for some tough Big 12 matchups,” said Mullins. “This team continues to improve and I have no doubt we will be a very tough-minded team by the end of the season.”

The team is riding the momentum of a benchmark year in 2014. Oklahoma ascended as high as No. 14 in the rankings, reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament and received multiple individual awards and accolades both on the court and in the classroom.

The all-conference duo of Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie won the Big 12 Conference championship in No. 1 doubles, while Ritchie was named ITA Senior Player of the Year.

Mullins and former assistant coach Cristina Moros also garnered ITA Regional Coach of the Year and ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors, respectively.

The NCAA tournament berth was the fourth in the program's six years under Mullins.
