NORMAN, Okla. -- Four members of the 13th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's tennis team were among 26 student-athletes named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Tennis Team, the conference office announced Tuesday.

“It's always nice for guys to get recognized on that end," OU head coach John Roddick said. "I know it's something that they're proud of, as well as their parents and us here at OU from both the team and the academic standpoint. I know everybody in Academics is proud of the way they help the kids get there, and it is something for the kids to be proud of as well.”

Senior Ryan Proctor (mechanical engineering), junior Peerakit Siributwong (multidisciplinary studies) and sophomore Dane Webb (business) achieved first-team honors with a 3.20 or better grade point average. Proctor was one of two students on the Academic All-Big 12 list indicated to have a 4.0 GPA.

Senior Costin Paval (multidisciplinary studies) received second-team honors with a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

This is the second time on the Academic All-Big 12 team for Siributwong, who earned first-team honors in 2012.

Twenty student-athletes from the Big 12 received first-team honors, and six earned second-team credits.

To qualify for Academic All-Big 12 honors, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
