NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma junior Whitney Ritchie was named the Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Ritchie went undefeated in doubles and singles play over the weekend. Ritchie and partner Hermon Brhane, at the No. 1 position, notched two doubles victories over ranked opponents.  The duo topped Baylor's 19th-ranked Ema Burgic and Victoria Kisialeva, 8-3, April 13 and TCU's 51st-ranked Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith, April 14.

In singles, Ritchie fought back, at the No. 2 position, after a 3-6 loss in the first set to defeat Kisialeva, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 10-4, to give Oklahoma its point in the team's loss to Baylor. Against TCU, Ritchie upset No. 107 Smith at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-3. The upset victory paved the way for the Sooners to hand TCU its first conference loss this season.

Ritchie holds a six-match winning streak at the No. 2 position in singles and posts a 9-5 record this season.

Oklahoma travels to Stillwater, Okla., Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m., for round two of Bedlam and to close out the regular season. The Sooners defeated the Cowgirls, 4-3, in Norman, earlier this season.
