Sooners Finish Day Two of Hidden Duals

November 09, 2013 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN, Okla.--After a strong finish on day one, the Oklahoma women's tennis team fell Saturday at the Northwestern Hidden Duals in Evanston, Ill.

Freshman Morgan Chumney and sophomore Emma Devine both forced third sets in their respective matches before falling to Northwestern's Alicia Barnett and Maddie Lipp.

Junior Abbi Melrose and sophomore Zita Engbroks were both defeated in straight sets by Jillian Rooney and Manon Peri, respectively.

"I was actually really happy with the team," head coach David Mullins said. "We were competing against a top 10 team without our top three players."

The team will finish out the weekend against Yale starting at 9 a.m. Sunday.

At the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship in Flushing N.Y., seniors Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie were topped by Southern California's Brynn Boren and Zoe Katz 8-7 (5).
