Sooners Compete at Wildcat Invitational

NORMAN, Okla.--The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team began the first day of competition Friday at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
After a bye in the first round, freshman Ann Pepper was the sole undefeated Sooner after defeating Kelsey Frechette of Minnesota 6-5, 6-2.
Freshman Morgan Chumney and sophomore Emma Devine advanced in doubles play after defeating Virginia's Marie Faure and Caryssa Peretz 6-1.
In singles play, sophomore Zita Engbroks and junior Abbi Melrose won their first round matches against Katie Goepel of Princeton and North Carolina State's Natalie Janowicz, 5-6, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-4, respectively.
After falling in the first round, Devine and seniors Mia Lancaster and Whitney Wofford and defeated Wisconsin's Sydney Rider 6-1, 6-1, Lauren Chypyha 6-5 (2), 6-4, and Anastasia Tripolskaya, 6-5 (3), 6-2,respectively.
Chumney also recovered from a first round loss defeating Rachael James-Baker of North Carolina State 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, the duo of Wofford and Melrose fell to Jessika Mozia and Maja Vujic of Minnesota, 6-2. Minnesota's Tereza Brichacova and Paula Rincon-Otero, 6-5, also defeated Lancaster and Engbroks.
The Sooners will be back in action Saturday as they compete in the second round of doubles and third round of singles.
