NORMAN, Okla. -- OU freshman
Alex Ghilea advanced to the final round of qualifying at the International Tennis Federation's USA F27 Futures over the weekend.
Ghilea was one of three Sooners competed in the men's singles qualifying draw at the Futures tournament in Mansfield, Texas.
Alex Ghilea faced Alexandru Gasca-Silav in the first qualifying round, ousting his fellow Romanian in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Ghileathen then eliminated Evan Nix in the second round 6-2, 6-1. Ghilea takes on Matt Zsiga in the third round Monday.
Dane Webb and
Nick Papac competed against each other in the qualifying draw. Papac took the first set 6-4, but Webb came back to win the next two sets 7-5, 6-1 en route to the next round.
Webb played Max Andrews of Great Britain in the second round. After competing in a lengthy tiebreaker in the second set, the OU junior fell to Andrews 6-4, 7-6 (7).
The final qualifying rounds finish Monday and the winners advance to Tuesday's main draw.
