Sooners Begin Fall Season

NORMAN, Okla. -- Four Sooners start fall play at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) USA F25 Futures Tournament in Costa Mesa, Calif. Costin Paval, Dane Webb, Axel Alvarez Llamas and Nick Papac begin qualifying rounds today.

The Sooners go into the tournament with positive expectations. Oklahoma had the most selections of any Big 12 Conference team in the recently released Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Preseason Rankings.

Paval leads OU at No. 6 nationally in singles, with Webb ranked 57th. Alvarez Llamas claimed the No. 7 spot in the ITA's 10-member preseason freshman/newcomer rankings.

The singles main draw begins Sept. 18.

All-Americans Paval and Webb start the first round of qualfying against Ciro Riccardi and Mbonisi Ndimande, respectively. Later in the day, Alvarez Llamas plays Henry Craig and Papac faces Cristobal Rivera.
