NORMAN, Okla. -- Costin Paval of the 11th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's tennis team was named the Co-Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

It marks the second career conference honor for the junior from Bucharest, Romania. Paval's first Big 12 Player of the Week honor came on April 2 after he helped lead the Sooners past Texas and Texas A&M. Paval shared the honor with Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar.

“It's a great effort by Costin to be named the Big 12 Player of the Week two times when the conference season is only four weeks long,” John Roddick said. “He has played well the whole time and he is the first person in program history to win it twice. We are excited for him and glad to see our guys get these kinds of awards and honors when it is so well deserved.”

To earn his second accolade, Paval took care of Oklahoma State's 107th-ranked Vlad Bondarenko at the No. 1 position (6-0, 6-0) as the Sooners posted a 6-1 victory over Bedlam rival to win the Big 12 regular season title outright this past week. In that match, Paval and partner Dane Webb also won their doubles match at No. 1, 8-4.
