NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team captured two wins Sunday as competition closed at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
"I was very pleased with our singles performances this weekend. Our doubles play needs a lot of work which is typical for this time of year," OU head coach David Mullins said. "We got everything we needed to get out of this event and I am excited about the progress this team is making."
The singles draw was reordered so Sooners Hermon Brhane and Mia Lancaster would not have to compete against each other in the championship match of the White Draw.
With the adjusted draw order, Brhane defeated Northwestern's Alicia Barnett, 6-4, 6-2, in the White Draw final. Lancaster lost to Wisconsin's Hannah Berner, 7-5, 6-2.
OU freshman Zita Engbroks finished with a victory over DePaul's Kelsey Lawson, 6-4, 6-4, in the Blue Draw final.
Abbi Melrose was beaten in the Black Draw final to Northwestern's Nida Hamilton, 6-2, 7-6 (3), and Whitney Wofford dropped her match to DePaul's Rebeca Mitrea, 6-3, 6-3, in the Red Draw consolation final.
The Sooners return to action Oct. 18 at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
