NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma's Emily Collins and Ellen Mueller were recently named to the National Golf Coaches Association's All-American Scholar Team.

Collins, a freshman last year for the Sooners, and Mueller, a senior, were among 369 NCAA Division I golfers honored for their academic achievement.  Among the requirements for inclusion on the team are a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.

"I'm really proud of Emily and Ellen for their accomplishments in the classroom," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin.  "They are true examples of what it takes to be a top-tier student-athlete, with their ability to do well in the classroom and be competitive on the golf course.  We emphasize academics on our team and congratulate them on this honor."

Collins, a communications major from Colleyville, Texas, competed in all 11 of OU's tournaments in 2010-11 and recorded three top-20 finishes.  She registered a 76.52 season stroke average and posted a season-best fourth-place finish at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in the fall.

Collins also participated in the U.S. Women's Open this month in Colorado Springs, Colo.  She became the second golfer in school history to qualify for the event while enrolled at OU.

Mueller, a health and exercise science major from Evansville, Ind., concluded her stellar collegiate career by averaging a personal-best 73.91 strokes per round in 2010-11.  She finished her OU playing career with a 75.27 stroke average, second best in school history.  Mueller won the Dale McNamara Invitational in Tulsa last fall and competed in the 2009 NCAA Championships as a junior.  She is a two-time All-Big 12 selection and a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree.
