NORMAN, Okla. – Ionut Beleleu and Costin Paval will begin play in the singles portion of the 2011 NCAA Championships on Wednesday, May 25, at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.
Beleleu, ranked No. 24 in the ITA singles rankings, compiled a 13-9 record on the year while holding down the No. 1 singles spot for the Sooners. The 2010 ITA Central Region Champion will face Virginia's 56th-ranked Jarmere Jenkins. The two will square off at 3:30 p.m. CT.
Paval, the nation's 41st-ranked singles player, boasts a 17-6 record after competing at the No. 2 position for Oklahoma. Paval will take on Ohio State's Matt Allare, ranked No. 50, at noon.
Last year, Paval and former Sooner Andrei Daescu earned All-America status after the duo advanced to the Elite Eight and finished the year ranked No. 13. The Sooners have not had an All-American in singles since Olivier Lorin in 1987.
Stanford University will serve as host. All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
