Beleleu Set for UVa Invitational Finals

Beleleu Named Academic All-Big 12

IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma senior Ionut Beleleu was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Men's Tennis Team, announced by the leagueTuesday.

This is Beleleu's third appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 Team and his first as a member of the second team. The finance major from Zalau, Romania, was one of 18 members to earn the prestigious academic honor.

OU's lone senior, Beleleu, has led the Sooners at the No. 1 position for the majority of the year and is currently ranked No. 30 nationally. Beleleu, the 2010 ITA Central Region Champion, holds a career record of 92-43 in singles and 59-52 in doubles and was one of 32 participants to make the cut to compete in the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships this past fall.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests.

Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Next up, the fifth-seeded Sooners will battle the No. 4 seed Texas Tech in the first round of the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas, April 29-May 1.
