Sooners Ready for Main Draws at All-Americans

TULSA, Okla. – Main Draw action of the ITA All-American Championships begins Thursday, Oct. 5, and Oklahoma will be well represented as three Sooners will compete in singles and two duos in doubles.

Two Sooners, Guillermo Alcorta and Peerakit Siributwong, won third round matches on Wednesday in qualifying singles action to advance to the main draw. Alcorta downed BYU's Spencer Smith, 6-4, 6-3, while Siributwong routed Texas' Daniel Whitehead, 6-0, 6-2.

Costin Paval, an automatic qualifier, will open play against Nebraska's Christopher Aumueller on Thursday.

In doubles, two OU tandems won back-to-back matches to advance to main draw action. Paval paired with Dane Webb who began the day defeating Florida's Tripper Carleton and Spencer Alexander, 8-4, then beat Washington's Ulrik Thomsen and Alexander van Gils, 9-8(5).

The other Sooner duo to advance was Siributwong and Tsvetan Mihov. The Sooners won an 8-4 match over Wisconsin's Billy Bertha and Alexander Kostanov. In their second match, Siributwong and Mihov took down a rival in A&M's Colin Hoover and Alexis Klegou, 8-5.

Play opens Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center with singles play at noon.
